I've managed to have it suck in a wad of about 5 pages. It is not simple to determine if you can resume scanning as it is hard to tell which page(s) it misfed. Not enough automatic file naming options exist. When I had to scan 11x17 on a large copier, it was not easy to get it as clear or as simple to scan as with the S1500.īottom line: if you need to scan lots of paper, this is way better than most current alternatives for the money.Ĭons: It takes some time to learn to all options. Pros: Once you scan a lot you will realize the limitations of this little machine. I’m glad I had a chance to play with it because after using it, I realized that it wasn’t going to be useful to me at all so I ordered the lower cost package without that extra software, saving me about $45.

Overall Review: Before I purchased this unit, I debated whether to get the slightly more expensive package which is bundled with V5 Rack2 Filter. Very sad I expected better…ADOBE FIX YOUR SOFTWARE! It’s always pulls up nothing, even if Acrobat completely makes a mess of the OCR. The “OCR Suspects” features is completely broken in Acrobat 9. If OCR is important to you (as it is to me), let me warn you that Acrobat 9 (and 9.1) has a serious bug with the OCR. It’s not significant for me enough to deduct an egg for it, but it’s just something I noticed because I used to do map scanning on my flatbeds which required very good linearity. The lines on the edges don’t look 100% straight. Because it’s folded, as it’s fed through, it moves a bit. For example, I fed through a monthly statement that was mailed Z-folded in the envelope. That works very well.Ĭons: One of the disadvantages of using an ADF over a flatbed is that the ADF causes a bit more non-linearity.

Ther's also a full version of Acrobat 9 Standard, a business card scanning program (which I’ve not used) and ABBYY FineReader if you need to convert scanned images to MS Word, Excel, or Powerpoint. The included ScanManager software is very good.
It comes with a clear “Carrier Sheet” if you need put feed through very small receipts or sticky notes which you fear otherwise might not feed well. It pulled those pages through, scanning them all perfectly. I put a number of mixed documents onto the scanner, then press the lit (blue) button on the scanner. Not any more! Everything JUST WORKS RIGHT, and I’m beginning to believe that TWAIN is more of a liability than an asset. I used to have problems with TWAIN + ADF + Acrobat. Let me tell you… this scanner does NOT disappoint!! No TWAIN, but that is not missed at all. I purchased it for faster scanning and duplex capability.
